kurmapalooza '13 was a success! We had 82 pre-sold tickets and probably another 80 people at the door, plus 20 musicians, half a dozen catering staff, and several volunteers... A *very* cozy barn full of non-stop music, delicious food, beautiful auction items and -- most importantly -- lots of love and goodwill for Michael Kurman, who circulated through the party with his purple earplugs in place, shaking hands and hugging friends and family as he was able. People from all walks of our community came out and by the end of the night, folks were saying they'd love to make this an annual benefit event for someone in need so ... stay tuned! Now that we have a template for the event, we can pitch for a little bit of sponsorship to make it happen again in 2014. If such "pitching" is something you do well, please be in touch with me (Tracy) ~ thanks! So many wonderful people poured their love into this event. I want to thank MAX & ANDREA HANSEN for offering their beautiful barn and for being so easy to work with. ROB SCHNELL helped me mastermind the flow of the night and served as stage manager, emcee, and general go-getter; ANDREA HANSEN was liaison between me and MAX HANSEN CATERING, who donated the (delicious) food and scored deep discounts on some of our bigger rentals; RICH BELLANDO donated and ran the sound system; THE MUSICIANS (listed at right) donated their performances; NADINE LESSER, BARBARA KURMAN, and ANDREA HANSEN made the space and the grounds beautiful; BILL KING obtained several items for auction and was our most enthusiastic social networker; MEGAN MCLAIN monitored the auction; RYAN CANDELORI and ALEJANDRA LEWANDOWSKI sold raffle tickets; LUKE KURMAN and JASON HANLON directed parking; ALEXIS KURMAN handed out raffle prizes; KEN INGRAM and LEAH COLB ROTHMAN took tickets and stamped hands at the door; KELLY STRATTON loaned us an umbrella heater; and BOB SCHNELL donated the wine. Even MICHAEL KURMAN, our beneficiary, ran errands as he was able. Auction items were donated by the following generous companies and individuals. Adam May, American Mortals Salon Andrea & Max Hansen Anchor Custom Covers Carroll's Jewelers Chek Roka, The Fresh Collective Cross Keys Diner Godfrey Daniels Lance & Jamie Knox Massage360 Megan McLain Michael Kurman (custom hockey lamp) Music at the Mission Outpost Wines Outpost in the Burbs Philadelphia Flyers Rebecca Carr, Belle Pietre Jewelry RiaH Hair Studio Kurmapalooza '13 was a truly community effort. We look forward to presenting the second annual event in 2014. If you're interested in staying in touch, won't you consider signing the mail list so you don't miss out? Thanks so much! See you next year in Carversville! |
In addition to their fondness for Michael Kurman, these acts have something really cool in common: they have all featured Michael Kurman on bass (well, with one exception)! How cool is that?

on august 9, 2013, MICHAEL KURMAN, aka kurm just kurm, mike, or that barefoot bass player, was T-boned in upper makefield township, pa on his way to a performance. his car was totaled and he sustained wrist, back, and brain injuries.
though expected to make a full recovery, kurm has been unable to drive or work since the accident due to vestibular issues that arose from the concussion he sustained. unfortunately, through some odd loopholes in the system, he was denied disability and workers' compensation and is now in a rough spot financially as he enters his third month without pay. for years, kurm has been paying it forward as an active, generous volunteer at music, hockey, and school events for his four kids. his musical compadres have decided it's time for some of kurm's good karma (kurma?) to come back to him. some of the philadelphia-area's finest musicians are joining forces to present a special night of music in beautiful carversville, just 15 minutes from doylestown borough. dinner will be provided by max hansen; beer and wine will be available. in addition to the music, we'll have a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, and some surprises, too. all proceeds from this event will go directly to kurm so that he can continue to focus on healing. show the love by joining us in the big barn on november 10 for top notch music, award-winning catering, and community! KURMAPALOOZA November 10, 2013 • 5pm-9pm Max & Andrea's Barn Park next door at the Carversville Church, 3736 Aquetong Rd., Carversville tickets: $30 adult / $10 kids 12 and under ~ includes concert and dinner. |
